The university has long considered the protection and inheritance of intangible cultural heritage a top priority, and our intangible cultural heritage protection and inheritance efforts continue to achieve success. In June 2021, the application of “Sichuan cooking technique” for induction into the fifth group of national-level representative intangible cultural heritage status, led by the Development and Research Center of Sichuan Cuisine of the university, culminated in complete success as per the State Council’s official announcement, and the heritage is the only one of the “four great culinary traditions of China” to be holistically declared a national-level intangible cultural heritage. In September 2021, Sichuan Tourism University was certified as a protection unit of the fifth group of national-level representative intangible cultural heritage after another successful application spearheaded by the Development and Research Center of Sichuan Cuisine. In November, ten provincial-level Sichuan cuisine intangible cultural heritage representatives recommended by the Development and Research Center of Sichuan Cuisine were successfully elected, and the protection unit consequently ranks first in terms of the number of intangible cultural heritage representatives. At present, the Sichuan Cuisine Development and Food Culture Research Institute has successfully carried out activities related to involving Sichuan cuisine intangible cultural heritage in scenic zones, rural villages, school and online, while studies related to inheriting Sichuan cuisine intangible cultural heritage have been undertaken in an earnest fashion. In future, the university will continue to explore the conversion of intangible cultural heritage creativity and new and innovative development pathways, so as to aid rural village revitalization and actively utilize intangible cultural heritage in driving local socio-economic development.
